Staging Your Home in the Proper Light

Most people prefer lots of light in the home, at least when they are considering purchasing one. Proper lighting is an important part of home staging. A well-lit room sends the subliminal message that you have nothing to hide. Remember, home staging is not about hiding flaws or even emphasizing good points. Home staging is really done to help the potential home owner vividly imagine what it would be like if they were living in your home. Good lighting throughout your home helps buyers see and appreciate every part of every room.

When it comes to artificial light, every room in your home may need something different. Traditional-style incandescent bulbs emit more yellowish light, providing the room they’re in with a warm glow. Fluorescent lights have a stronger blue light component, making the room look brighter and cleaner. You may want to opt for bright, fluorescent lights in the kitchen and bathrooms. But bedrooms and the living room may look better in softer tones. If you want to add to the ambiance of your bedrooms, you can light several candles before your prospects arrive.

Light doesn’t have to be artificial. In fact, the best way to increase the lighting homestage-lightingin your home is with natural lighting. To accomplish this, start by cleaning your windows both inside and out. Spotless windows allow in the maximum amount of natural light. Not only does this give your home a feeling of openness and warmth, it will also save on utility bills by providing adequate daytime lighting. Your window treatments should allow for the maximum passage of light. If you currently have thick, heavy, room-darkening curtains, consider replacing them with sheers or blinds. Some people choose to take their curtains down completely to let in more light.

Home staging is all about making a lasting impression on potential home buyers so your home will make their short list. Showing your home in the best light has a good chance of accomplishing exactly that.
